“Throughout my career there have definitely been barriers, especially as a Black woman within the theatre industry.”
This groundbreaking new series aims to inspire the next generation of practitioners by offering a unique perspective on achieving success regardless of background, gender, race or age. Created in partnership with Russell Lucas, a London-based artist who produces content for stage and screen, TheatreMakers provides extensive insight into the lives and careers of working artists who break down barriers to produce eclectic and thought-provoking theatre.
In this interview, Myah Jeffers explores her role as a dramaturg working with theatre-makers who go against the grain to develop their story, characters and overarching themes. Jeffers highlights the importance of creating work from an honest and authentic point of view, promoting the use of imagination and the power of language, and reveals how her aim to inspire young Black women who want to get into theatre motivates her to succeed.
